Short Biography of Annalee Skarin and Reason Skarin

Annalee Skarin
Also known as: Annalee Kohlhepp, Annalee Gorman, Annalee Avarell, Evon Janson, Evon Jonson, Nan Mathews, Nansela Mathews, Christine Mercie

Born Anna Olea Kohlhepp
7 July 1899 American Falls, Oneida, Idaho, United States.
Mother:    Mary Ella Hickman, born Utah
Father:    Fredrick John Kohlhepp, born Massachusettes
Siblings: Frederick W Kohlhepp, Survivore Kohlhepp, Minerva Teichert, Marie Nash, Sarah Bird, Constance Shivley, Eda Lisonbee.

Attended high school until the 8th grade, which was not uncommon for the early 1900s. Later attended the University of Utah for a quarter of a semester.

Married William Michael Gorman 15 July 1916, Power, Idaho. A son, named Avon, was born in 1918. They lived in Idaho. Divorced W.M. Gorman in 1919. In the divorce filing Annalee asked for, and was awarded, $1000 settlement. Mother Mary Ella Kohlhepp, and sister Sara Kohlhepp, were witnesses for the divorce case.

Married Hugo Joseph Elof Avarell on 31 August 1922 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Hugo was a Chauffeur when they married and later a Post Office employee for 36 years. They lived in San Pedro, California, and had a son, Hugo, who didn't survive infancy, and two daughters, Hope and Linda. Sometime in the middle of 1943, when her daughters were still teenagers, Annalee Avarell walked out on the marriage and filed for divorce in Reno, Nevada. A notice appears in the Reno Evening Gazette on Thursday 7 October 1943. Curiously, she is listed as Annabelle Averell, rather than Annalee, divorcing Hugo Avarell. (Anna Maybelle is the name of Reason Skarin's first wife.)

Married Reason Eugene Skarin 12 October 1943, at Buffalo, New York. After 1952 they spent the rest of their lives living under assumed names in California, most notably Raymond and Evon Janson, and Nan and John Mathews. The pair claimed to be "translated" beings without any worldly interests or possessions who would not die  - the reality was quite the opposite.

Annalee Skarin died on 17 January 1988 and is buried in the Sunset Hill Cemetery, Corning, California, under the alias Nansela Mathews.

Reason Skarin
Also known as: Raymond O. Janson, Raymond Jonson, John Mathews, John C. Mathews.

Born Reason Eugene Skarin
13 September 1898 Buffalo, Erie County, New York, United States.
Mother: Jennie Jansen, born in Sweden.
Father: Gustav Skarin, born in Sweden.
Siblings: Thor, Balder, Freya, Edith, Oden, Eric, John.

Attended high school until the 8th grade. Employed as a Clerk at an auto firm in the 1920 Census.

Joined the Marine Corps in late 1920, and was stationed in California until 1922.

Joined the Buffalo City, New York, police force in the mid 1920s.

Married Anna Maybelle Glover, 21 September 1927, Kenmore, New York. Anna Maybelle Glover was born in Canada in 1909. She became Mrs Reason Skarin, or Anna Mae Skarin. A daughter, Annalee Victoria Skarin, was born in Buffalo, New York, on 10 February 1929. (Anna Mae Skarin later married William Harvey Perry, a painter by trade, in Buffalo, New York, 5 October 1940. Harvey Perry was born 1909 and died March 1969, Buffalo New York.)

Reason Skarin died from "asvcd" 28 March 1982. He was 83 years old. He is buried under his real identity "Reason Eugene Skarin," and not "John C Mathews," because having served in the Marine Corps entitled him to a burial paid for by the government. (If not for this his death certificate and grave may have never been located in 1994 by Annalee's daughter Hope.) Reason Skarin's grave is located in the military section of Oak Hill Cemetery in Red Bluff, Tehama County, California, in the United States.
